Grounding in the Waiting

By the time March arrives in New England, I find myself restless and eager for the first signs of spring, for bird songs and bright green buds. But here, winter lingers. The earth reminds me that growth cannot be rushed.

Nature takes its time, and so must we. Though we can’t rush our blooming, we can root ourselves more deeply. This is a season for grounding, for tending to our inner landscape, for nurturing ourselves so that when growth comes, we will rise without depletion.

As I created this month’s journaling prompts, the image of a wintering tree kept returning to me, inspiring me to write and share this poem with you. I’ve added a few bonus prompts drawn from its themes. Let this poem set the tone for the rest of this month’s Journal Prompt Guide.

The Wintering Tree

Through the cold
and windy nights,
the tree endures,
holding fast to the ground
through nourishing roots
that run deep and wide.

Life seems gone
from her lifeless limbs—
unless you look closely
at the tiny buds,
dreams of the future,
waiting for Spring’s warmth.

Naked she stands,
yet powerful within,
gathering strength
to blossom and bloom
at her given time.

March 2025’s Theme is Grounding in the Waiting: March’s 70-page guide features 31 different prompts that invite you to till the soil of your heart, strengthening your foundation so that when your spring arrives, your soul is ready to expand and bloom.

This guide also includes bonus prompts for the poem shared above.

A Space to Write Together

If you’ve been craving a place to write and reflect in community, I’d love to invite you to join my From a Whisper to a Roar Journaling Circle.

We gather twice a month, on Fridays at 9:00 AM EST.

The Journaling Circle is a supportive, non-judgmental space to come as you are. We begin with a prompt, write in silence, and end with optional reflection. You can share, or simply be held in the quiet presence of others who are also doing this work.
