October Journaling Guide: Releasing & Receiving
The October Journal Prompt Guide is here. This month, we’re exploring Releasing & Receiving.
It felt appropriate for the beautiful Autumns I get the pleasure of experiencing here in New England.
I am often drawn to the lessons that nature provides. When we slow down enough to observe the Earth around us, we can tune in to its subtle teachings.
Walking through a favorite cemetery last week, I paused to sit under a tree and gently watch the trees release their leaves. How often am I asked to gently release that which I so often want to hold tightly? And yet, it is in the releasing that I open myself up to receive.
Releasing is part of every season of life. For some, it feels like loss, uncertainty, or fear. For others, it feels like freedom, relief, and possibility.
Most of us experience a mix of both. We crave consistency and safety, yet life is always changing. So, we resist by holding on to a favorite pair of jeans, a career, a relationship, or a way of being long past its time (to name just a few).
Yet, in releasing, we also open ourselves to receiving. In letting go, space is created for rest, clarity, peace, and new beginnings. This month’s guide invites you to explore what you might need to release and what you are ready to receive.
Like autumn leaves floating to the ground, the invitation is both gentle and inevitable: to make space for what is waiting to enter your life.
The prompts are grouped into four themes:
Preparing & Evaluating
Releasing & Letting Go
Receiving & Opening
Reflection & Support
There’s no wrong way to use them. You can go through the guide in order, choose a prompt that resonates with your day, or simply open to a random page and begin. If a prompt doesn’t speak to you, you might even try writing about why it doesn’t. Sometimes that resistance holds its own truth.
How to Access the Guide
The October Journaling Guide is available for free to all paid subscribers of this newsletter.
If you’re not a paid subscriber, you can purchase the guide by visiting my website. Paid subscribers, keep reading to the bottom to access this month’s guide.
I believe in making these practices accessible, and I’m honored to share them with you.
A Space to Write Together
If you’ve been craving a place to write and reflect in community, I’d love to invite you to join my From a Whisper to a Roar Journaling Circle.
We gather every 2nd and 4th Friday of the month at 9:00 AM EST.
This isn’t a workshop or a class. It’s a supportive, non-judgmental space to come as you are. We begin with a prompt, write in silence, and end with optional reflection. You can share, or simply be held in the quiet presence of others who are also doing this work.
