Pulling Back the Curtain on Parts Work
A Letter to My Younger Self
….a raw one today.
A month ago, while doing some parts work, I saw a very vivid image of my much younger childhood self weeping, scared, and alone in a pitch-black corner of a room desperate to be seen and loved completely and wholly for who I am.
I didn’t know fully what to do with this exiled part of myself.
Today, I spoke to her.
It, of course, came out in poetry.
She and I need to have many more conversations.
She’s believed for far too long that she is unlovable evidenced by a faith that taught her this was true and the many who have told her and shown her it was so.
But that isn’t true.
I will gently show her she can trust me and be loved by me and by others.
New ways of being will spring forth from this work.
I can feel it.
To My Younger Self
Little girl,
I see you there
huddled in the dark corner
scared, sad, and alone.
I want you to know,
you never deserved to feel this way.
You were meant to see, express,
Feel, run, climb,
and be all you are.
You don’t need to be perfect
to be loved.
You don’t need to be “less”
to be loved.
You don’t need to be “more”
to be loved.
Nothing can make you unlovable.
Nothing and no one.
I’m so sad others
couldn’t love you
as you needed to be loved.
I’m here now.
I love you.
We’ll heal together.

Writing Prompt:
I write to heal.
Early in my healing journey, my journal accompanied me everywhere I went so I could hear and process my thoughts as I put pen to paper. Often, those writings came through various writing prompts. To pay it forward, I offer you a writing prompt with each post so you can join me in discovering your inner hero through writing.
If writing to heal resonates with you, consider using the following prompt to direct your writing.
Here is your prompt:
Write a letter to your younger self. Tell your younger self what they need to hear. (Note: this could be to a younger self from only a few weeks, months, or years ago!)
