The Birds Know
On anticipating light, making art, and calling out to one another
Their songs call forth life--
before warmth fills the air,
before flowers bloom brightly.
The birds know. They see and
anticipate the changing seasons.
Follow their call.
Your time is now
to sing your song,
take flight,
and soar.
by Catherine Sipher
"Do you know why birds sing just before dawn? Scientists believe it's a way that birds show their mates that they made it through the night, as a way of saying "I'm still here."
Maybe that's why we sing too, why we create art-- as a way of saying " I made it, I'm still here"
-Jeff Goins
The birds get it. We all cry out for connection.
How wonderful that birds do so while singing...making music...their own form of art.
Perhaps that is the cry of our own hearts as well. To the artists and empaths out there ....keep singing, keep creating, keep sharing. I will do the same.
The world needs your beauty.
Journaling Prompts
If this piece stirred something in you, these questions are yours to sit with:
The “songs" that call me forward right now are...
The season of change I find myself in is...
The beauty I have to offer the world right now, as I am, is...
The Invitation
Journaling is how I return to myself. The circle is where I do it in community.
If you’re ready for a dedicated hour to write, reflect, and hear yourself clearly, I’d love to hold that space for you. The From a Whisper to a Roar Journaling Circle meets every other Friday at 9am EST.
For New Readers
If you’re new here — many of these essays grew out of the poems in Barely a Whisper, my poetry memoir. It might be a place to begin.
